Chapter 4: Verse 07-08

Subject: Time of Incarnation

विषय: अवतरण का समय

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत।
अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्॥४-७॥

Whenever there is a decline of righteousness and up rise of unrighteous, at that time, O Bharat, I manifest Myself.

हे भारत! जब-जब धर्म की हानि और अधर्म की वृद्धि होती है, तब-तब ही मैं अपने रूप को रचता हूं अर्थात साकार रूप से लोगों के सम्मुख प्रकट होता हूं। ॥४-७॥

Lesson: The Supreme- Self manifests Himself whenever there is a decline of righteousness and up rise of unrighteousness. (Great personalities are born to lead the people in the moments of moral crisis and spiritual decline)

Subject:  Purpose of Incarnation

विषय: अवतरण का उद्देश्य

परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्।
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय संभवामि युगे युगे॥४-८॥

I manifest Myself, from age to age for the protection of the righteous people; for the annihilation of the miscreants and for the restoration of righteousness.

साधु पुरुषों का उद्धार करने के लिए, पाप कर्म करने वालों का विनाश करने के लिए और धर्म की अच्छी तरह से स्थापना करने के लिए मैं युग-युग में प्रकट हुआ करता हूं। ॥४-८॥

Lesson: The Supreme- Self manifests (the great personalities are born) from time to time to reestablish righteousness and protect the righteous persons.

श्रीभगवानुवाच
Lord Krishna said

Subject: Cycles of Birth/Rebirth

विषय: जीवन चक्र या पुनर्जन्म

बहूनि मे व्यतीतानि जन्मानि तव चार्जुन।
तान्यहं वेद सर्वाणि न त्वं वेत्थ परंतप॥४-५॥

 

O Chastiser of Enemies, many many births you and I have passed through. I remember them all. O Arjuna, but you do not.

श्री भगवान ने कहा – हे परंतप (तपस्या से अपनी इन्द्रियों को वश मे रखने वाला) अर्जुन! मेरे और तुम्हारे बहुत से जन्म हो चुके हैं। तुम उन सबके बारे मे नहीं जानते किन्तु मैं जानता हूँ।

Lesson: Knower of Self alone knows the secret of the cycles of birth/rebirth.

स्वयं को जानने वाला ही जीवन चक्र और पुनर्जन्म के रहस्य को जानता है।

Subject: Theory of Incarnation

विषय: पुनर्जन्म का सिद्धांत

अजोऽपि सन्नव्ययात्मा भूतानामीश्वरोऽपि सन्।
प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय संभवाम्यात्ममायया॥४-६॥

Though I am unborn and Imperishable and though I am the Lord of all creatures, yet, subjugating My own nature, l manifest Myself through My divine potential (free will not per force).

 

मैं अजन्मा और अविनाशी स्वरूप का होते हुये, समस्त प्राणियों का होते हुये भी अपनी प्रकृति को वश मे कर के अपनी योगमाया से प्रकट होता हूँ।

चतुर्थोऽध्यायः "ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः" श्लोक ०३-०४: Chapter 4 - Verse 03-04

Chapter 4: Verse 03-04

Subject: Eligibility for Knowledge

विषय: ज्ञान के लिये योग्यता

स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः।
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम्॥४-३॥

I have told the same ancient knowledge to you because you are My devotee and My friend. This is most mysterious (knowledge).
Lesson: The friends and devotees alone are eligible to receive best of the knowledge.

तू मेरा भक्त और प्रिय सखा है, इसलिए वही यह पुरातन योग आज मैंने तुझको कहा है क्योंकि यह बडा ही उत्तम रहस्य है अर्थात गुप्त रखने योग्य विषय है। ॥3॥

अर्जुन उवाच।
Arjuna said:

Subject: Curiosity
विषय: जिज्ञासा

अपरं भवतो जन्म परं जन्म विवस्वतः।
कथमेतद्विजानीयां त्वमादौ प्रोक्तवानिति॥४-४॥

Sun was born much earlier than you. How am I to reconcile that you exposed Sun to this Yoga in the beginning of the creation.

अर्जुन बोले- आपका जन्म तो अर्वाचीन-अभी हाल का है और सूर्य का जन्म बहुत पुराना है अर्थात कल्प के आदि में हो चुका था। तब मैं इस बात को कैसे समझूं कि आप ही ने कल्प के आदि में सूर्य से यह योग कहा था? ॥4॥

Lesson: Satisfy all your queries/ curiosities before you start following any tradition/practice.

अपनी जिज्ञासाओं को शान्त करने का हर सम्भव प्रयास करना चाहिये

श्रीभगवानुवाच।
Lord Krishna said:

विषय: ज्ञान मे महान व्यक्तियों का सम्मिलन
Subject: Participation of Great Persons in Knowledge

इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम्।
विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्श्वाकवेऽब्रवीत्॥४-१॥

I taught this (karma) yoga, the eternal science of action to Sun: he told this to Manu (his son) and Manu taught it to Ikshvaku (his son).

श्री भगवान बोले- मैंने इस अविनाशी योग को सूर्य से कहा था, सूर्य ने अपने पुत्र वैवस्वत मनु से कहा और मनु ने अपने पुत्र राजा इक्ष्वाकु से कहा। ॥4-01॥


Lesson: The involvement/ participation of great persons in a scientific pursuit or knowledge (teaching) demonstrate its importance and prevalence.


विषय: रीति रिवाजों की विलुप्ति
Subject: Disappearance of Traditions/Practices

एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः।
स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परंतप॥४-२॥

Thus taken care of or passed over in regular succession, this (Yoga of action) was known to royal sages. But, O Chastiser of Enemies, with the passage of time this (Yoga of action) has disappeared from this world.

हे परन्तप अर्जुन! इस प्रकार परम्परा से प्राप्त इस योग को राजर्षियों ने जाना, किन्तु उसके बाद वह योग बहुत काल से इस पृथ्वी लोक में लुप्तप्राय हो गया। ॥4-02॥


Lesson: With the passage of time even the best of the traditions or practices disappear.
